Welcome Home

Since we were in the middle of a move and unable to create a nursery for Summer when she was born, it was really important to Ryan and I to give our son a cute space as part of his welcome home celebration. Drawing inspiration from my husband’s job as a Naval Officer, we chose a baby blue nautical theme for Ryan’s nursery.

To decorate the space, we used a baby blue nursery set that had outfitted my room as a little girl. Before sending it to us, my Mother tailored everything to custom fit our furniture, including a crib set with matching canopy, vintage bassinet linens, and organizational odds and ends to outfit the baby’s changing table.

Baby Ryan’s room is small, so keeping the design simple was really important. Rather than buying a lot of furniture, we only purchased essential pieces in an effort to keep the room open and minimize clutter. We were able to find a simple 4-in-1 crib that can transform as baby Ryan graduates from a crib to a big boy bed. We also capitalized on the flexibility of IKEA cube shelving to provide a space for the special mementos we have collected for our son, like photo albums, Japanese books, baby shower decor, and a time capsule for Ryan to open when he turns 18 {more about that coming soon}. We’ve even decorated with few of my husband’s baby items, like the colorful name placard at the end of Ryan’s crib and a Chicago Cubs baseball cap that he wore nearly 30 years ago {very fitting for the arrival of our new baby boy and the Cubs’ World Series Victory}!

Bringing Ryan home was an exciting day for us, especially with his grandparents in town, and luckily, we had Nizar there to help us capture it…

Ryan and I are blessed to have two amazing children and a beautiful home in which to raise them. Even though it can be overwhelming at times, it’s been fun having baby Ryan home and seeing him interact with Summer. She is such a loving big sister, and we are beyond excited to watch them as they grow up together!

More about Miss Summer’s big girl’s room coming soon!
