Winter in Interlaken
Located between two Alpine Lakes, Interlaken is a popular Swiss destination for outdoor sports and travel enthusiasts. Interlaken, translated as “between lakes”, is located in the Swiss Alps with routes to the east and west alongside the lakes and into high mountain resort towns reaching the famous Alpine peaks of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. While it has its own draws, like luxury hotels, high end shopping, and annual events such as the Swiss Yodel Festival, the town of Interlaken mainly serves as a base camp to discover the breathtaking valleys, mountains, and lakes in the surrounding area.
Due to the scenic landscape and plethora of outdoor activities, Interlaken is a destination that can be enjoyed year round. Since it is only a four hour drive from Stuttgart, this charming Swiss town has quickly become one of my favorite weekend getaways where I have enjoyed activities like hiking, canyoning, and skiing. For Valentine’s Day, we decided to spend a weekend in my favorite little winter haven in the Swiss Alps before the arrival of our sweet baby girl.
On the road to Interlaken, even the drive is picture-worthy. Switzerland is the most beautiful place I have ever visited with stunning vistas at every turn.
After arriving at our hotel in the center of Interlaken, we navigated the trams up the mountain for some snow-covered sightseeing
and relaxation in toasty lodges, as I am in no condition to ski this trip. Acclimating to high altitude while pregnant is no joke!
Paragliding into the sunset… not a bad way to enjoy the view of the Swiss Alps!
