A Day Under the Waves

Diving is one of my all time favorite activities! I may have numerous “all time” favorites, but ultimately, if I am out in nature enjoying being active, I am a happy man. It has been several years since I last had an opportunity to dive and I have been looking forward to sharing this passion with Ashley ever since we got married. Unfortunately with a baby due soon, this trip didn’t allow us an opportunity to share this together, but Ashley sent me out on a personal adventure for a day in the deep.

After a little research, I elected to go on a two-tank diving trip with Kon-Tiki Diving and Snorkling Center. We boarded a longtail boat in Ao Nang harbor and linked up with the diving boat for the day. After a quick safety brief, we were underway en route to Viking Cove on Phi Phi Island.

I could pontificate at great length about how amazing this company is, but their reputation speaks for itself! In the interest of brevity I will say that they are a safety conscious company that ensures the satisfaction of their guests. They offer diving and snorkling trips all around Ao Nang and Phi Phi Island. The staff are the epitome of professionalism and offered everything you could hope for from a scuba experience. At over 20 dives in my lifetime, this was easily one of the most enjoyable days I have spent underwater with any company.

Diving is such a unique and tranquil activity. It is like swimming around in a huge aquarium! The water in Thailand was amazingly warm and despite being in the middle of rainy season, visibility was pretty good and there was a plethora of sea life.

One of the more interesting parts of this locale were monumental structures submerged at approximately 20 meters. During a dive near the cove, these massive structures appear out of the deep and have been placed to encourage coral reef growth and serve as a home to sea urchins, fish and even turtles.

This was truly an amazing day and one of the more beautiful places that I have been diving. If you have the opportunity to travel in Krabi, do not miss the opportunity to spend a day diving in this amazing location with Kon-Tiki Diving and Snorkling Center!
